On Monday, May 16 Parents As Teachers (PAT) families from Fayette and Colorado counties met at Wolters Park in Schulenburg for Art in Park-Family Art Night. With the help of Mrs. Kelli Thumann and PAT Educator Karen Hoskins, Parent Educators and volunteers set up different stations throughout the park to spotlight American children’s book author and illustrator, Eric Carle. Carle uses bright, eye-catching colors and simple designs that appeal to young children. He is well known for books like “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” “The Very Busy Spider,” and “The Tiny Seed.”

Children and their families made necklaces, fingerprint art, butterflies, caterpillars, chalk designs, Play-Doh creations, planted seeds, painted art, and played in the park. Afterward, they enjoyed dinner under the pavilion. Approximately 90 people attended. Parents As Teachers serves families with children ages prenatal to five years. PAT generally has one group connection each month to help families build social connections, engage in parent-child interaction, and increase knowledge of ways to support their child’s or children’s development.

Volunteers were integral to the success of this group connection and we are thankful that they were there. Volunteers were Melinda Barneycastle, Ginger Bosl, Brent Hoskins, Cheryl Pekar, Camila Rangel, Dania Sanchez, Lucy Stanzel, Morgan Steinhauser, Jannette Streit, Kelli Thumann, Barbara Veselka, Mark Veselka and Melissa Veselka.

If you are interested in joining PAT please contact Parents As Teachers at (979) 733-4226 or visit our office at S. College St. and W. St Charles Streets (FUMC).
