Annual Serbin Picnic Sunday

The public is invited to attend the 130th Annual Serbin Picnic on Sunday, May 26 at the Serbin Picnic Grounds. Worship will be held at 8:30 a.m. BBQ and sides will be sold beginning at 9 a.m. until sold out. The ladies will have a booth with desserts, homemade canned goods and a silent auction.

The Wendish Museum will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and there will be a children’s program at 1:30 p.m. Children’s booths, games and rides will begin at 2 p.m. The Czech Melody Masters will play from 3-8 p.m. A washer pitching tournament will follow the 2 p.m. baseball game.

Hamburgers, French fries, nachos, ice cream, snow cones, toy items and cold beer will also be available.

Faith Lutheran Top Grads 

Faith Lutheran High School named their top graduates: Valedictorian-Timothy Meyer and Salutatorian-David Wolff.

Area Vacation Bible School 

Area Vacation Bible School is just around the corner. The following are a few in our area: Holy Cross in Warda: June 17-19 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. each evening. A light meal will be provided at 5:30 p.m. Register at: www.holycrosswarda. com.

TWHS Scholarship 

The Texas Wendish Heritage Society Scholarship Program is now open. This scholarship program is available to students of Wendish heritage. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or trade school for Fall 2024 semester. Applications are available online at texaswendish.org and must be submitted digitally by 5 p.m. Friday July 12. Community Baseball 

The Serbin Jackrabbits will play Flatonia at Serbin on Sunday, May 26 at 2 p.m.

Bike Riding Trails 

Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda has bike riding trails that are open every day from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. They also offer primitive camping spots. May 18-19 is the Warda Race. Scholarship Fund 

The Amanda Knox Memorial Scholarship Fund is holding two Spring raffles. The first is for an Ultimate Hill Country Experience for two people. Tickets for this raffle are limited and will sell for $100 each. One winner will be drawn.

The second drawing will include 12 items for 12 winners. These tickets will sell for $20 each. Tickets for both raffles are on sale now, with drawings held in May and June. All monies raised will go toward a full scholarship awarded to an incoming freshman at Faith Lutheran High School.

Baptism 

Lillian June Pietsch was Baptized on Sunday, May 19 at Holy Cross. Lillian is the daughter of Mason and Samantha Pietsch and was born November 21.

Holy Cross Services 

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

The midweek morning Bible Study at Holy Cross in Warda is Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. This covers the book “Has American Christianity Failed?” by Rev. Bryan Wolfmueller. Everyone is invited. Please call the church office at (979) 242-3333 to request a copy of the book for the low price of $9.

Faith Lutheran High School Graduation will be held Saturday, May 25 at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
