The 20th Annual CCA Casino Nite is being held on June 6 at the St. Michael’s Park Pavilion at 310 Frio Street in Winchester. Come and roll the dice, place your bets, and join us for a high-energy night of fun and fundraising. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with gaming starting at 7 p.m. There are two ticket options: a VIP ticket for $75 will include dinner, drinks/BYOB, and $30,000 in gaming tokens; the general ticket is $50 and includes dinner, drinks/BYOB, and $10,000 in gaming tokens. Gamers will be competing for a $1,000 Southwest Airline gift card. Also available will be a silent auction and door prizes. Call (979) 540-2980 to reserve your tickets today.

St. Michael’s Annual Picnic The Annual Picnic of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church has been set for Saturday, June 14 at the Park Pavilion in Winchester. Seating and activities will take place outside as well as in the air-conditioned pavilion. The events begin at 3 p.m. with the opening of the beer and soda stand and registration for the washer tournament. From 3-5 p.m. there will be a bounce house and arts and crafts for the kids. The washer tournament will begin at 4 p.m. with the BBQ meal served by the plate from 5-6:30 p.m. The meals are $15 per plate with the meal including pork or chicken BBQ, BBQ sauce, potato salad, noodles, beans, bread, iced tea, and dessert. The live auction will begin at 6 p.m. and the remaining BBQ will be sold, by the pound, beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will also be a gun raffle. A portion of the picnic proceeds are dedicated to Congregational Tuition Assistance for Lutheran Schools.

St. Michael’s VBS 

Vacation Bible School is only a few weeks away. Please consider volunteering your time to help with meals, snacks, crafts, games, or even classrooms. They could use your help on Tuesday, June 17, to set up at the park at 5:30 p.m. VBS kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on June 22 and runs through June 26 (Sunday through Thursday.) Join us for dinner and fun. This year’s VBS theme is “True North: Trusting Jesus in a Wild World.” This VBS is filled with awesome Biblelearning experiences kids get to see, hear, and touch. Please make plans to join. Winchester Quilt Block Trail Drive out to Winchester, pick up a map at Murphy’s or Zilss Hall, and enjoy viewing the 65 quilt blocks displayed in our area on the Quilt Block Trail. The trail is self-driven, available at your convenience, and is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon viewing quilt blocks on fences, gates, barns, and houses that can be seen from the road. Winchester Barn Board Quilt Trail maps may be picked up at the Texas Quilt Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, Zilss Hall, Murphy’s Steakhouse, quilt stores, and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville, and La Grange.

Recycling Trailer 

The Winchester Recycling trailer is located on the side of Zilss Hall on Memorial Hall Street. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins. We would appreciate it if you made sure that you close the bins so that any trash will remain in the bins.

Zilss Community Hall 

Anyone wishing to rent Zilss Hall should contact (512) 434-0292. The hall is inexpensive and air conditioned. The hall is now available for rentals.

The Little Free Library 

The library is on the covered patio at the Hall and is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s) look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. Also on the patio, there is a bulletin board available to post event notices.

Round Table Book Club 

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on June 17 at Zilss Hall with the book selection being “The God of the Woods.” All are welcome.

St. Michael’s Church 

The weekly worship service takes place at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning in the sanctuary. Following the worship service, you may gather in the Education Building for Bible Study and Sunday School beginning at 10:30 a.m. (This is a new time for Sunday School and Bible Class.) The Rev. Nate Hill is the pastor. You are welcome to visit.
