Our beautiful, Mrs. Myrtle Eddie Crosby was born Jan. 5, 1935, Myrtle Eddie Adams at Richardson Hospital in Jasper. She was the first child and only daughter of Mr. Eulis Adams and his wife Mrs. Belle B. (Bryant) Adams. Mrytle Eddie’s mother gave Myrtle the middle name Eddie after her favorite brother, Eddie Bryant. Four years later in 1939, Myrtle Eddie’s younger brother was born, Mr. Kenneth Louis Adams. Myrtle and Kenneth were the only children born to Eulis and Belle Adams and they were a deeply loving and spiritual family. Myrtle Eddie’s parents proceeded her in death in the 1980s.

At an early age Miss Myrtle Eddie learned to play the piano from her music and piano teacher, Mrs. Erma Peacock. The Adams’ were faithful members and attendants of Mt. Olive Baptist church in Jasper where Miss Myrtle Eddie became the music and choir directress under the leadership of Reverend N.P. Johnson. She remained the music and choir director until she moved to La Grange.

Miss Myrtle Eddie Adams attended Rowe Elementary and High School in Jasper. She graduated top of her high school class in 1952 and won a valedictorian scholarship. Miss Mrytle Eddie Adams then entered into Prairie View A&M College where she met the love of her life, Lorenza Crosby Jr., during the final days of their college career. They were married on Aug. 3, 1957, after they graduated in 1956 with Bachelor Degrees in Education.

Mrs. Myrtle Crosby then began her teaching career in Jasper. After her contract ended with the Jasper school board, she was able to begin teaching in La Grange for the 1961-62 school year. Mrs. Crosby taught for 30 plus years in La Grange retiring in 1992. Her life was full. She loved the kids, family, church, flowers, and music. During her tenure with the school district and after her retirement Mrs. Crosby taught private piano and music lessons in her home to so many students and the children of the La Grange community. Myrtle had numerous successful piano recitals over a number of years.

Another joy that Myrtle had was teaching Ladies Bible Class. Myrtle was truly a gift to this world. She loved the Lord and her family.

Mrs. Myrtle Eddie Crosby is survived by her husband of 67 years, Mr. Lorenza Crosby Jr, and he will love and miss her with all his heart forever. She also survived by her brother, Mr. Kenneth (Joyce) Adams; her brother-in-law, Mr. Roosevelt (Sonny Crosby). Myrtle is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, church community and loved ones.
