Woman Arrested for Drunk Driving After Getting Stuck on Train Tracks

La Grange Police arrested a local woman for drunk driving after she got stuck on the railroad tracks last Thursday morning.

According to La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath, Sgt. Mitchell Maxwell responded to a vehicle stuck on the tracks in the 900 block of Colorado St. around 8:15 a.m. Upon arrival, he found a gray 2006 Honda Civic driven by 45-year-old Maria Reyes of La Grange. Gilbreath said Reyes turned onto the tracks, apparently thinking that it was a road.

A Union Pacific train was heading into La Grange from Smithville at the time. Police called Union Pacific and got them to stop the train ahead of the intersection.

Gilbreath said Maxwell observed signs that Reyes was intoxicated. He conducted a standard field sobriety test and placed her under arrest. Maxwell took her to the Fayette County Jail, where a breathalyzer test was administered. Gilbreath said the results were well above the legal limit. Reyes was booked into the jail for driving while intoxicated.

The car was removed from the roadway and the train was able to continue without further incident.
