Truck Catches Fire at Gas Station

An 18 wheeler caught fire at the fuel pump at Timewise convenient store in Flatonia last Thursday.

The incident happened shortly before noon. Flatonia Police Chief Lee Dick said the truck pulled up to a diesel pump and then a fire started in the engine compartment. The blaze destroyed the tractor. The trailer was unharmed. The fire appeared to have originated around the truck’s turbo charger.

The canopy over the fuel pumps were blackened from smoke.

Flatonia Fire And Rescue quickly responded. Flatonia Fire Chief Chris Swenning called for mutual aid from the Schulenburg and Muldoon VFDs. Swenning said they were able to get the fire under control around the time the first Schulenburg units arrived. He thanked the two departments for their assistance.

No one was injured.
