Semi Driver Dies In Interstate 10 Crash
A multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 10 Monday morning resulted in one fatality.
The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 29 on the westbound side of the Interstate about two miles east of Schulenburg. The Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the crash, but their report was not available in time for this publication.
First responders said they found a car that had hit the guardrail. An 18-wheeler, apparently in an effort to avoid the car, went off the roadway and struck an embankment.
The 18-wheeler burst into flames. The driver died at the scene.
First responders shut down the westbound lanes of the interstate during the crash investigation and cleanup, which continued throughout the morning and into the afternoon.
Thousands of vehicles diverted through Schulenburg on Hwy. 90 during the closure, which caused a major traffic backup. The lanes were reopened around 2:15 p.m. Authorities had not identified the deceased driver at the time of this publication.
