Quilt Museum
The Central Texas Food Bank mobile food pantry will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church on Saturday, Jan.17 from 10-11 a.m. This event is drive-thru only.
The Texas Quilt Museum is proud to present the work of Zanna James, known for her intuitive, one-of-a-kind creations, beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17. She paints fabric, designs three-dimensional fiber art, and is the innovator of Quilted Weaving a technique using quilted fabrics and yarns on a frame loom to craft unique fiber stories. Free admission begins at 2 p.m. come early to save your seat and explore the new exhibits.
Chicken & Sausage
The La Grange Knights of Columbus will sponsor a drive-thru only fried chicken and sausage dinner benefitting local charities on Sunday, Jan. 18, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Community Center in La Grange, 190 St. Brown St. The meal will include fried chicken, sausage, sauerkraut, green beans and buttered potatoes for $15 per plate. The meal is first come, first served.

For the Record on Page A2 & D4 The Fayette Prairie Chapter of the Native Prairies Association of Texas will be hosting a three-part Zoom series on Setting Up for Success on Your Land to provide landowners with strategies to be good land stewards and make the most of their property. The series is lead by Chase Brooke, small acreage program specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. There is no cost to attend the Zoom presentations. Fayette County Republican Party Forum
The Fayette County Republican Party will host a Candidate Forum to include Fayette County Pct. 2 Commissioner and Fayette County Judge Candidates on Sunday, Jan. 18 at the Ellinger Hall located at 104 W. Colorado Sky in Ellinger. The forum will run from 1-4 p.m. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available. Additional upcoming candidate forums for Fayette County Judge and Texas House District 85 include: Jan 24: Schulenburg KC Hall; Jan. 31 Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club; Feb. 7, Flatonia American Legion Hall. These additional forums will be held from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Food and refreshments available will be available. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m.
La Grange Senior Citizens Group Trip
The La Grange Senior Citizens Activity Group has a day trip planned for Sunday, Feb. 15, to see “Dear Jack, Dear Louise,” a heartwarming old-time romantic comedy, at the Unity Theatre in Brenham. All seniors are invited to attend. The group will be leaving from the Randolph Recreation Center parking lot at 11:30 a.m. Transportation will be provided by the city van and some carpooling with lunch (on our own) at Must Be Heaven at 12:15 p.m. The show begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person, and payment is required prior to the trip. Garbage Holiday Schedule La Grange City offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Waste Management will be working their normal garbage and recycle schedule. FWS Corporation Meeting
Fayette Water Supply Corporation will be conducting a monthly meeting of the Board of Directors on Monday, Jan. 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the FWSC office located at 200 Bordovsky Rd. in La Grange. All members are encouraged to attend.
AMEN Food Pantry Holiday
The AMEN Food Pantry will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19. The pantry will be open for food distribution on Monday, Jan. 26.
VFW Post No. 5254, Auxiliary to Meet On Tuesday, Jan. 20, Fayette Memorial VFW Post No. 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet in the VFW Post Home at the Fayette Co. Fairgrounds in La Grange. Turtle Wing Toast at Freyburg Hall Kick off the New Year celebrating 15 years of Turtle Wing Foundation, a quindecennial of helping individuals with learning challenges in rural areas achieve their full potential. DeeAnn Hooper, founder, will share her heartfelt testimony, reflecting on the mission, the milestones, and the miracles that have shaped Turtle Wings journey. Plus, a special performance by the Dancing Turtles. The Toast will be held at Freyburg Hall on Thursday, Jan. 22. Doors open at 6 p.m. Program at 7 p.m. Hors D’oeuvres and a cash bar available. A social time will be held at 1130 a.m. The La Grange Garden Club meets at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 E. Pearl St. in La Grange every fourth Thrusday of the month.
Senior Game Day
The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host Game Day on Thursday, Jan. 22, from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. RT-C Gifted & Talented
Round Top-Carmine Independent School District requests nominations for Gifted/Talented students in Kindergarten. Nominations will be accepted from RTC staff, parents, and community members. The state defines a gifted and talented student as, “a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment”. They should also, “exhibit high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area, possess an unusual capacity for leadership, or excel in a specific academic field”.
