LGISD Rooftop Units Struck by Lightning

In Friday’s Record we had some highlights from last week’s LGISD School Board Meeting. Here’s some more: Unexpected Repairs

Two rooftop HVAC units were recently damaged presumably due to a lightning strike. Since this was not originally on the approved list of projects for the maintenance tax note monies, and since the server replacement came in under budget, the administration requested and the board approved the spending of funds from the maintenance tax note for this repair. The cost for these repairs will be $13,505.50.

Administrative Reports 

Superintendent Andy McHazlett reported that the current enrollment is 1,845 students. The district average daily attendance is 1,741.77. He remined the board of many upcoming events and banquets, especially the academic banquet which is being held on April 23, but required an RSVP by April 16. He also mentioned the scholarship program which will take place on Thursday, May 8.

Assistant superintendent Stacy Eilers told the board that enrollment for current students will begin on May 1 and new student enrollment will begin on May 12.

She also gave the board an update on the UIL Academic contests. Some highlights included the district results – 519 total points giving La Grange first place, with Giddings coming in second with 375 points, and Melville third with 335.

Director of operations, Sharon Muzny reported that the bus that was ordered in September has still not been delivered. It is expected to be here by the end of May. She also reported that several people from the district attended a cyber security training at Region 13 in Austin.

Library Materials 

The board was presented with another list requested library materials. They will be purchased if no opposition is made by May 14.

Depository Contract 

The board of trustees extended the bank depository contract with Fayette Savings Bank for two years for the biennium of Sept. 1, 2025 to Aug. 31, 2027.

Technology Update 

The board approved the vendor selections for renewing the internet service for the district.

The internet service will be provided by Colorado Valley Communications at a final cost of $1,211.98 and the network switches will be replaced at a cost of $26,193.60.
