LG Hospital Now Appears Poised to Reopen in 2026
Mississippi-based Progressive Health Group has finalized a deal to lease and operate St. Mark’s Medical Center.
Fayette County EMS Director Josh Vandever, who has been involved in the process, said some sort of reopening of services at the shuttered La Grange hospital could happen in the first half of 2026.
“This is no longer theoretical,” Vandever said. “Money has exchanged hands ... peo-ple in the health care field now have a stake in this facility.”
Progressive’s deal is with a Florida-based investment group, which finalized the purchase of the property last week.
The La Grange hospital closed in Oct. 2023 amidst financial struggles. At the time Progressive Health Group mounted a 11th hour bid to buy the hospital and keep it open but they were unsuccessful. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development put the hospital up for sale last summer. It was purchased by Mark. M. Young Sr. of Atlanta (who snagged it in the federal note sale for $806,199.42).
Details on what Young sold the property for last week were not available. Also unknown are the terms of Progressive’s lease agreement. Progressive owns at least five hospitals in Mississippi, but manages several more.
Progressive Health Group states, as part of its mission statement: “to rejuvenate rural hospitals across our nation. Our motto, ‘Feel Good. Live Better,’ represents a promise for better healthcare access in small communities.”
