86% of Voters Reject LGISD $90 Million Bond Proposal
Voters in Fayette County spoke loudly in the municipal and public school elections, which took place Saturday, May 2.
La Grange ISD’s $90 million bond election (which called for the building of an indoor practice facility, expansion at the middle school and renovation of the 1923 old high school building among other things) saw the largest turnout.
District voters overwhelmingly defeated the proposition by nearly 86 percent. The unofficial count was 1,992 against and 332 in favor.
La Grange ISD Superin-tendent Andy McHazlett gave the following statement Saturday night after the votes were counted: “While we are disappointed in the outcome of the bond election, the La Grange ISD Board of Trustees and I remain steadfast in our commitment to providing an exceptional education for our students. We are grateful to everyone who took the time to learn about the bond proposal and participate in the election. Your engagement reflects how deeply this community cares about La Grange ISD. Our facility challenges remain, but we are committed to finding solutions that meet the needs of our students and staff. We will continue working together and listening to the community. Thank you for your continued support, involvement, and belief in the mission of La Grange ISD.
“The community spoke and we will listen,” he added. “I am passionate about our students, staff and community of La Grange and I will continue to work to help improve all that we do.”
