Lack of Oversight

To the Editor:

I am writing to bring a matter of urgent public concern to the attention of my fellow residents regarding the Fayette Power Project (FPP) and the current state of regulatory oversight in our backyard.

Recently, I filed a formal pollution complaint and a request for a contested case hearing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). To date, the commission has failed to even acknowledge these filings. This silence represents a troubling lack of transparency regarding the air and water quality we all depend on.

Fortunately, our community is not standing alone. I have been in direct communication with State Representative-elect Geesaman and State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, both of whom are aware of the situation. Furthermore, I am grateful for the leadership of County Judge Dan Mueller, who has aggressively pushed for water well monitoring and has called on the TCEQ to hold a public hearing so that experts can address the potential risks to our groundwater.

I also want to publicly thank The Fayette County Record. The reporting by Andy Behlen and Jeff Wick has been indispensable in keeping the public informed and holding the relevant parties accountable.

We deserve a regulatory process that is responsive and a power project that operates within strict environmental standards. I encourage my neighbors to stay informed as we demand that the TCEQ address these concerns openly.
