REMEMBER WHEN?

In his January report, Sheriff T.J. Flournoy characterized 1969 as a good year in his business. Compared to other counties and cities, he said there had been little major crime in Fayette County and each of those cases had been solved, as well as almost all the minor ones. He noted his office had been able to keep crime down to a minimum with the help of the good, law-abiding people of Fayette County.

Boys led the girls by one in births at Fayette Memorial Hospital during 1969. The score was 53 boys and 52 girls. Sadly, out of the three sets of twins born, only one set survived.

County service officer Frank J. Pratka received a letter from the Texas Veterans Affairs Commission in Austin stating that veterans, along with their dependents or survivors, made up almost half of the county’s population. Together they provided a good-sized boost to the Fayette County economy.
