Firefighters Get New Tool in Battle Against Opioids

Election of New Officers Also Held for Fayette Co. Firefighters Association

All fire departments in Fayette County now have access to opioid overdose medicine thanks to a grant recently received by the Fayette County Office of Emergency Management.

County Emergency Management Coordinator Craig Moreau passed out the overdose kits to the fire departments at a meeting of the Fayette County Firefighters Association last Wednesday. The kits include two doses of the anti-overdose drug Narcan, gloves and a mouth-tomouth breathing mask.

Moreau said first responders across the country are increasingly coming into contact with the deadly opioid fentanyl and its even deadlier analog carfentanil. Fentanyl and carfentanil are becoming popular among dealers and users of heroin because of their potency.
