Local Sales Tax Revenue Setting New Record Highs

As stock market indexes have been setting new record highs, so have sales tax collections for many area towns.

Through November, La Grange has received just under $2 million in rebates of local sales taxes collected by businesses in the city. State Comptroller Glenn Hegar has sent a total of $1,995,204 to La Grange. That’s up 8.3 percent from the same 11 months of 2018.

All six of Fayette County’s incorporated towns have seen increases from last year. Fayetteville is up the most, with a 17.1 percent increase for the 11 months. In fact, of the 24 area towns tracked by the Record, only two are down from last year. Shiner has had the biggest gain – up 18.1 percent for the year, just ahead of Fayetteville’s 17.1 percent. Eight of the nine area counties tracked by the Record have shown growth.
