Fire Torches 54 Bales, 15 Acres, Hay Baler

A property owner near West Point lost 54 round hay bales in a fire on Sunday, Nov. 24.

La Grange Volunteer Fire Department got a call around 2 p.m. reporting a hay baler that caught fire while baling hay in a pasture along FM 154 near West Point. Fire Chief Frank Menefee said the fire in the baler spread to the surrounding hay meadow and bales of hay that were sitting in the pasture. La Grange VFD called for assistance from Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department. Six fire trucks and 13 firefighters from the two departments battled the blaze before bringing it under control around 5 p.m.
