Price of Garbage Independence is Costly in Schulenburg

The Schulenburg City Council voted to spend nearly $350,000 from garbage department reserve funds for a new garbage truck and a fleet of wheeled trash carts for residents.

The City of Schulenburg remains one of the only municipalities in the area with its own garbage service. Most cities contract with private companies to provide waste services.

“We did a survey with the surrounding towns that currently use other disposal companies, an we are comparable to Yoakum, which currently still serves their customers with sanitation services,” said City Administrator Tami Walker. “We want to continue providing service to our customers and not feel pressure to go with a third party.”
