Only D’Hanis Stands Between RTC And a State Baseball Tourney Berth

Each of the last two seasons, Fayetteville beat D’Hanis in the regional finals to earn a berth in the state baseball tournament. This season the Round Top-Carmine baseball team will try to keep the Fayette County success going against D’Hanis as the two battle in a best-of-three regional final in Marion. Game 1 is Thursday at 7 p.m. Game 2 is Saturday at noon with a Game 3 to follow if necessary after the completion of Game 2. The winner of this regional final advances to the state baseball tourney, which begins June 5 at Dell Diamond. To beat D’Hanis, RTC will have to overcome senior Alex Magers, one of the best small school pitchers in the state. Magers pitched a perfect game against Bruni May 10 and is a Texas A&M baseball commit. But the Cubs (16-10) can combat D’Hanis’ ace with a deep pitching staff of their own, led by Ryker Goehring and Alex Pieper, who each threw complete game shutouts last week in a sweep of Bartlett.
