Trucks Wreck, Telephone Pole Falls, Passing Army Medic Comes to Rescue

A wreck on US 77 north of Schulenburg left a man from Temple injured Tuesday afternoon, March 5.

The wreck happened around 4 p.m. at the intersection of US 77 and Herzik Road. According to a report from DPS Trooper Josh Berger, a white 2015 Ford F-450 pickup pulling a fertilizer rig was heading north on US 77 and attempted to take a right on Herzik Road. A white Ford F-550 Continental Battery box truck was also heading north behind the pickup and trailer.

Berger said the driver of the box truck, 25-year-old Brandon James Guynes of Temple, was driving the truck at an unsafe speed and failed to brake in time for the turning vehicle. The box truck sideswiped the right side of the trailer. The truck and trailer went into the east ditch of US 77 past the Herzik Road intersection. The box truck struck a telephone pole, went through a fence and came to rest in a pasture at the northeast corner.
