Round Top Town Offices Moving Into Fire Station
Round Top will get new municipal offices after the town council approved a plan Monday to renovate the town’s former fire station for that purpose.
“We own the land and we own the building,” Mayor Barry Bone said, explaining the rationale for the $85,000 project.
For several years, the town has been paying former mayor Barnell Albers $500 a month for a small two-room office without running water.
Bone said the town can borrow the money at four percent simple interest on a 25 year note and save about $50 a month over current costs.
The council worked through a meeting schedule that included a public hearing, a meeting of the Economic Development Corporation and a lengthy 23-item regular agenda.
