Stolen Gun, Deer Carcass Seized After Traffic Stop

Flatonia Police recovered numerous items of stolen property and a dead deer after stopping a man for a broken tail light Sunday night, Jan. 6.

According to a report from Flatonia Police Chief Perry Kram, the stop happened around 8:30 p.m. on South Faires Street. Officer Keith Llanes stopped the vehicle, a 2001 Dodge pickup driven by 28-year-old Wesley Rainosek of Shiner. Kram said Rainosek did not have a driver’s license, but he provided a license number.

When Llanes checked the number, dispatchers confirmed two felony warrants originating in Medina County for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Police placed Rainosek in custody and searched his pickup. The search revealed a .308 caliber rifle, ammunition, numerous stolen or fraudulent credit cards and a social security card, drug paraphernalia, a counterfeit one hundred dollar bill, and a freshly-killed whitetail deer carcass.

Police called Texas Game Warden Calvin Harbaugh to investigate the deer carcass. A few hours later, Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office called and informed Flatonia Police that they believe the .308 rifle was taken in a burglary in Lavaca County.
