LG 6th Grader is Finalist in National Competition

Cara Homer, a 6th grader from La Grange has earned a chance to win $5,000 and the opportunity for her business idea to come to fruition after she was named a finalist in the “Pitch YEA” national youth entrepreneurship program.

The YEA stands for Young Entrepreneurs of America.

Homer’s idea is called “Community Conversation” and she describes it as “a mission to create new intergenerational friendships and build community while lending a helping hand.” Her idea connects our local aging community with youth in the community to provide purpose, mentorship, and companionship. The elderly receive companionship, purpose, and help around the house while youth can learn skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, canning, farming, cooking, or more. “What a wonderful way for maybe those that have lost loved ones and are lonely but still have good health and want to either trade services or pay per task,” Homer describes the project.
