High School Soccer Season at LGISD Officially Begins This Week

The La Grange High School soccer teams are busy preparing for their upcoming spring seasons.

The girls varsity coach, Christopher Westall, said, “We’ve had a high turnover from last year ( they lost eight seniors and a total of ten), but a combination of players from last year’s (first time) JV team and several new players with good experience, has helped fill the gaps.” La Grange’s district has become more competitive in terms of the soccer teams, but Westall is confident that the girls will be “right in the mix fighting for a playoff spot.”

On the boys’ side, coach William McGonagle is also looking forward to the upcoming season. Last year, the boys varsity team made school history by winning the first playoff game ever for the soccer program against Fredericksburg in a thrilling, double-shootout victory. Unfortunately, the team lost at the area level–but with a majority of the team returning, McGonagle said their bond will be even stronger and hopefully that will translate to their performance.
