The 4 a.m. Phone Call

Just a Thought

Most of the time when someone gets a 4 a.m. phone call, it is either bad news, or some other type of emergency – and it usually startles you so much that you have difficulty going back to sleep after, even if it isn’t bad news. Unfortunately, over the years, I have had a lot of experience with this.

When my dad was in his final days, I got the phone call around 4 a.m. telling me that he had passed away. The same was true with my mom. When a tornado hit the town of Hattiesburg, Miss. (two years ago) I got a 4 a.m. phone call telling me the bad news of the tornado, but also the good news that my daughter (who was living there) was safe and unharmed.
