New Canine Officer Kolt Takes Over For the Retiring Star Sniffer Lobos

The Sheriff’s Office has a new deputy canine patrolling Fayette County.

Kolt, a 17-month-old Belgian Malinois, joined the force last month after months of training with his handler, Sgt. Randy Thumann.

“He’s phenomenal,” Thuman said.

Thumann’s old partner, Lobos, another Belgian Malinois, regularly made headlines for the large hauls of narcotics and drug money he sniffed out on Interstate 10. But Lobos turned nine-years-old this year and it was time for retirement. The Sheriff’s Office began looking for his successor this summer.
