Officials Testing Aging Equipment to Make Sure Your Vote Gets Counted Properly in Fayette Co.

On Oct. 16, the Fayette County Elections Office conducted a successful public test of the equipment that will be used to tabulate ballots in the general election next week.

The elections office must test the equipment before every election to ensure that voters’ ballots are accurately counted. The test involves sending a stack of marked ballots through the machine. Some ballots are filled out properly with one vote penciled- in for each race. Other ballots include stray pencil marks or votes for two candidates in a race, and some ballots included votes for write-in candidates.
