Pioneer Women Tell Their Story At Texas Heroes Day Sept. 15

Texas Heroes Day will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 9 am at Monument Hill State Park. The Monument Hill Singers and re-enactors will recount the history of the Dawson Massacre, the Mier Expedition including the infamous “Black Bean Execution”, and imprisonment in Mexico in the 1840s.

A lighter side of early Texas history will be told by the Monument Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Their Pioneer Women will present a skit called “A Cup of Sugar” based on stories told by Josephine White in her book, “Sunbonnet Angels — Hitch Your Wagon to a Star”.
