La Grange Football Begins 2018 Climb

Most days this summer during voluntary conditioning workouts, the Leopard football players gathered on a steep bank adjacent to the Colorado River near the football field. Every time they ran up and down, they tried to forget last year’s winless season, while at the same time trying to make sure it never happens again.

“We’ve got a mountain to climb, symbolically and right in front of us,” said La Grange head coach Matt Kates. “There’s nothing like hill training. Where we were was underwater, you look over and you can see the bridge. It’s amazing to think how high that dang water was (during last year’s flooding from Hurricane Harvey). This town has been through a lot and we didn’t help them feel any better with the season we had.”
