Wrestling Coming to This Year's Fayette County Fair

Back in the 1950s wrestling was on television regularly and stars like Gorgeous George and Lou Thesz battled it out from Ed McLemore’s Sportatorium in Dallas and other venues.

Fayette County wrestling fans will have a chance to revisit those days at this year’s Fayette County Fair when Marty Green brings his Premiere Event Wresting troupe to La Grange for a Friday night show.

Green said to expect six to seven matches of various kinds including lucha libre, the Mexican style wrestling where the wrestlers wear masks, female wrestlers and midget wrestlers.

“We were at last year’s fair right after Hurricane Harvey and donated our proceeds to flood relief efforts,” Green said.

Green was asked about the secret of wrestling’s continued popularity.

“It’s entertainment, people love to cheer the ‘good guys’ and boo the ‘evil’ ones,” Green said. (Or the other way around.) “It’s over the top.”
