One Year Later, Flatonia’s Renovated Downtown Theater Thriving

It’s not news when a small town movie theater closes – that’s been happening since television came in the 1950s.

But when The Lyric Theater in Flatonia reopened a year ago it was not just good news – it was a good omen for a cultural resurgence in the old railroad town in southeast Fayette County.

As the first anniversary of its re-opening approaches, theater owner James Longmire said the past 12 months “have been a lot of fun, and we’re pulling out all the stops for the anniversary April 7.”

Pulling out all the stops means a free screening of the retro-classic coming of age movie “American Graffiti” from 1962 at 6 p.m. preceded by a drive by car show from Schulenburg at 5 p.m.
