Lightning Sparks Oil Tank Fire, Truck Slides off Rainy Roadway and into Propane Tank, Touching Off Widespread Power Outage in Flatonia Area

Wednesday, as more than six inches of rain fell on some parts of Fayette County, it was a busy day for Flatonia area law enforcement, fire fighters and first responders.

According to Police Chief Perry Kram, at approximately 2 p.m., a Kenworth tractor-dump trailer combination traveling southbound on FM 609, just north of the intersection with I-10 left the roadway during a rainstorm and struck a cinder block enclosure containing a 1,000 gallon propane tank. The tank was displaced about five feet, but did not rupture. The enclosure was on the Amigos Country Corner property, normally a very busy area.
