Strong Winds Turn Small Fire into Blaze That Burns 100+ Acres

A fire in northern Fayette County burned 100 acres of pasture Monday afternoon, Jan. 22.

La Grange Volunteer Fire Department got the call shortly after 4 p.m. The fire occurred on the Chuck Guzman property on Bear Creek Road south of Warda.

According to a report from La Grange Fire Chief Frank Menefee, Guzman was burning some grass inside of a cattle guard when a strong wind spread the flames to a nearby pasture standing with dry coastal bermudagrass. The fire burned about 100-110 acres of pasture before firefighters contained it.
