City: Several False Flood Rumors Being Circulated

A few false rumors concerning the August flood have been floating around La Grange. Last Friday the Record spoke with La Grange assistant city manager Frank Menefee, who dispelled the false information.

One of the rumors alleged that the FEMA office at Randolph Recreation Center would be closing this week. Menefee said the FEMA officials would remain in La Grange for the foreseeable future to meet with flood victims.

Menefee said another rumor alleged that the City of La Grange was working to prevent the mobile home parks from reopening.

The City is allowing people back in, Menefee said.

He said the City will require any new homes to be set at the base flood elevation, which may result in some of the homes lifted three to six feet off the ground. In addition, all new homes will have to meet current city codes, which require solid concrete piers under trailer houses, AC units will have to be elevated and sewer systems will need check valves.

“All that will have to go into play now,” Menefee said.
