Methodist Youth Converge on La Grange to Help Local Families

An army of Methodist youth, the U.M. Army, descended on La Grange earlier this summer to provide some much-need assistance for a few struggling families.

The name U.M. Army stands for “United Methodist Action Reach-Out Mission by Youth.” The program styles itself as a summer camp, but isn’t your typical summer camp. Instead of canoes, bows and arrows and campfires, the campers learned how to use hammers, paintbrushes and power tools. The U.M. Army draws high schoolers from across Texas each summer to work on much needed service projects in communities like La Grange.
