Mobile Home Controversy Brewing in La Grange?

Several La Grange citizens raised concerns at a City Council meeting Monday night about three non-traditional structures recently erected around the City.

The structures include a new modular home at the corner of Horton Street and Travis, a doublewide mobile home recently moved to an empty lot near the end of North Jackson Street, and a carport-like structure built over a food trailer at the old Boss’s Steak House on Travis Street near the river bridge.

“I grew up in La Grange, and when you come into town from both sides now, you run into some janky building project,” said La Grange resident Buster Hill at Monday’s meeting. “I don’t want my property values destroyed.”

Hill lives on Sarah Jo Street, a few blocks away from the new modular home at the corner of Horton and Travis.

“There is one more lot left on Sarah Jo. If (the owners) ever sold that lot and they put a mobile home on it, it would kill the property values of ‘Snob Hill,’” Hill said, using a common nickname of his neighborhood.
