Five Pounds of Cocaine Taped to Woman’s Body

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Monday April 3, 2017, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and his canine partner Lobos, stopped a Chevy Impala on Interstate 10 at the 658 mile-marker at approximately 1:40 pm for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver and passenger, who gave completely different travel plans and reasons for traveling, Sgt. Thumann strongly felt they were transporting illegal narcotics from Laredo to Houston. Sgt. Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle. Thumann deployed his canine Lobos to conduct an exterior sweep of the vehicle. Thumann observe Lobos alert to the vehicle but was unable to locate the source once inside the vehicle. After further investigation Sgt. Thumann located approximately 5.4 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $245,000 dollars, taped to the female driver’s body.
