Sacred Heart Altar Society Holds Meeting

The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Oct. 2, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports by the secretary, treasurer, and assistant treasurer. Eleven ladies attended the meeting.

Work on Old Business 71 River Bridge Could Begin Soon

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reports that renovations on the old iron truss bridge across the Colorado River in La Grange could begin by the end of the year. TxDOT spokesperson Lucea’n Kuykendall said a pre-construction with the contractor, Cerka Inc., is scheduled for Nov.

Flatonia Nearly Upsets Undefeated Holland

The Flatonia Bulldogs aren’t going to the playoffs, but they played like they were Friday, rallying from a 22-point deficit and nearly beating undefeated Holland before falling 37-36. A late two-point conversion try by Flatonia (5-5 overall, 2-4 in district) was stopped and that proved to be the game winner.

Narcotics Unit Seizes 23 Kilos of Cocaine During Traffic Stop

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Oct. 31, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped an 18 wheeler pulling a flatbed trailer on I-10 at the 658 mile-marker at approximately 12:45 p.m. for a traffic violation.
