Round Top held its 172nd Annual Fourth of July Celebration and Parade on Monday, July 4. The tiny town’s population soared for the day as hundreds lined the streets and town square to watch the parade.

The smiling cowboy that adorns the new Texan store in Schulenburg is giving local folks something to smile about. A gas war broke out in Schulenburg last week after the new convenience store opened at the corner of US 77 and Interstate 10.

The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners ‘Kids Kamp’ concluded with a cricket race on Thursday, June 23. The three-day Kids Kamp concluded with insect day, as a part of which kids made bug like crafts and learned all about insects.
The Texan Store Opens in Schulenburg

The massive new Texan convenience store in Schulenburg opened Thursday evening, June 30. Located at 25. N. Kessler (the southwest corner of US 77 and Interstate 10), the store occupies the property of the former Frank’s Restaurant. Besides fuel, the Texan offers made-to-order food, lunch and dinner specials and plenty of clean restrooms. History Uncovered at Old Supermarket

Round Top July 4 Parade Set for Monday

The members of the Round Top Rifle Association will present the 172nd annual July 4th Parade and Celebration on Monday, July 4. According to the Rifle Association, the first celebration took place 1851, and the parade and festivities have been ongoing without pause ever since, even through the dark days of the American Civil War.
Cool Front Brings Rain and a Few Fender Benders

The cool front that blew through Fayette County Monday evening brought some muchneeded rainfall to much of the area. LCRA’s rain gauge on the Colorado River above La Grange recorded 2.46 inches of rain on Monday.
Oboist’s Passion Extends Beyond State Lines

Peter Davies, a Texan–born oboist attending the Eastman School of Music in New York, has found his way back to Texas this summer to perform at the Festival Hill Institute. Throughout his musical career thus far, Davies has had the chance to perform in various ensembles, including the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and the National Orchestral Institute Festival Orchestra. And all this can be traced back to his first source of inspiration: his older brother.

As Drought Intensifies, Officials Urge Caution

The Fayette County Office of Emergency Management, the Fayette County Firefighters Association, and Fire Chiefs across the county urge all residents and visitors to use the upmost caution to avoid setting fires. Fireworks, sparks from mowing equipment, and any open flame can start a fire easily during a drought. Aerial fireworks such as “roman candles”, “bottle rockets”, “artillery shells”, “missiles” or any other firework that can travel in the air can pose an even greater danger. Loss of property and loss of life are possible without due caution.
Legendary Sheriff Honored for His Ranger History

Saturday at the La Grange City Cemetery, a Texas Ranger Cross Memorial Dedication Ceremony was held for former Texas Ranger and T.J. “Jim” Flournoy who was also the Sheriff of Fayette County from 1945-1981.
