Diamond Roundup: Zimmerman Throws No-Hitter

Flatonia Baseball The Flatonia baseball team beat Bloomington 14-0 Friday as Beck Zimmerman threw a five-inning no-hitter with 14 strikeouts. Titan Targac had three hits, including a double and drove in three. Yandel Manzano had two hits, including a triple and drove in three runs. Tripp Bowling had two hits and Caysen Perez hit a double. The Bulldogs are now 11-5 overall and 6-1 in district play.

LG-Native Oppermann Named GM of Richmond Minor League Baseball Team

La Grange native Anthony Oppermann has been named General Manager of the Richmond, Va., Flying Squirrels, the team announced on Monday afternoon. Ben Rothrock, who has been the Flying Squirrels’ General Manager since 2017 and Chief Operating Officer since 2023, will continue to serve as the team’s COO.

Cubs Fall to Iola

The Round Top-Carmine baseball team lost to Iola 16-0 Tuesday. Carter Marburger and Miles Neese got the only hits for the Cubs, who fell to 3-9 with the loss. William Neese, Caden Tovey and Facundo Cerda combined on the pitching effort for RTC.

La Grange’s East Runs at Texas Relays for U of H

La Grange graduate Trey East III continues to excel on the track team at the University of Houston, and ran last weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin for the Cougars. He was 4th leg and ended the 4x400m relay with a split of 45.79 in the prelims, then a split 45.65 the next day in finals. Earlier this season East won the 200 meter title at the Leonard Hamilton Invitational with a time of 21.19 and was also on the first place 4x400 team at that meet. He was on the second place 4x400 team at the Texas A&M Ted Nelson Invitational and was on the winning 4x400 team at the Kirk Baptiste Invitational. East is a senior.
