I’m on vacation for a few days. So this past Sunday I treated Janessa to a Mothers Day trip to Matagorda.

What the Flatonia girls softball team was able to do Saturday in their regional semifinal game against Holland was so dramatic that head coach Shane Walker said “someone described it as kind of like a movie.” Things were so dire for the Lady Bulldogs after they fell behind 10-6 and then got two outs in the final inning that at least one player was already in tears.

The Schulenburg baseball team (16-12) swept their 2A area round playoff series against Premont 5-1 and 10-0 last week. The victories vault the Shorthorns into the regional semifinals where they will face Johnson City in a onegamer Friday May 16 at 7 p.m.

The Round Top-Carmine baseball team won Games 1 and 3 in their best-of-three area round playoff series over Medina last week to advance to the 1A regional semifinals. That series will be another best-of-three series, this time against Spurger at Willis.

In a battle of historic postseason rivals, the Fayetteville baseball team defeated D’Hanis 8-2 in a 1A area round playoff game Saturday. Jack Schley pitched six innings of one-run ball striking out 12, and Chance Konvicka pitched the seventh.

The Flatonia Bulldog baseball team defeated the Freer Buckaroos to win their Area playoff series. The Dogs swept a doubleheader last Friday by 11-2 and 11-1 scores.

The Flatonia softball team staged a stunning comeback in the final inning to shock Holland and win their one-game regional semifinal playoff game Friday 12-10. Holland led Friday’s game 8-4 and 10-6 before Flatonia scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning (all with two outs) to win the third round playoff game.
