La Grange Coaching Updates

La Grange athletic director Kyle Cooper has shared some more news regarding Leopard head coaches: • Brittany Oruonyehu, who was introduced as new La Grange volleyball and girls soccer coach in late spring ended up not taking the job and instead accepted the head volleyball job at Lockhart. Cooper said LGISD ended up not being able to hire a volleyball coach this summer, so Ryan O’Neal, the school’s new girls Athletic Coordinator and new head girls basketball coach, will also assume head volleyball coaching duties this season, on a one-year interim basis, and then the school will look to hire a new volleyball coach for the 2026 season.

Schulenburg Volleyball Team Shines on the Court and in the Classroom

The Schulenburg Lady Horn Volleyball Team is proud to announce that they are a recipient of the 2024-2025 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. It is the 12th consecutive year that the Lady Horns have received the award. Team members include: Miranda Bonner, Reagan Dusek, Jenna Guentert, Avery Helms, Jashiya Jackson, Michaela Kollmann, Madison Kunschick, Clara Magliolo, Emmrie Marx, Grace Schramek, Morgan Steinhauser, Haylee Vacek, Landry Zapalac. 527 High School Teams from across the United States of America received recognition. 51 teams were from Texas. The Lady Horns also received the AVCA Team Academic Award Honor Roll for the 6th consecutive year. This designation is for High School Teams that were in the Top 20% in the United States based on their Team Cumulative GPA.

Magazine Predicts Mixed Bag for Local Football Teams

Dave Campbell’s ‘Texas Football’ magazine is out on racks statewide and the 400-page edition, as usual, includes information and predictions for every high school football team in the state. According to the magazine, the results will be mixed for local football teams this fall.

Fayette Area Swim Team Competes at Regionals; Several Earn State Berths

Fayette County swimmers proudly represented the SALT League (Smallest Aquatic League of Texas) at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Region 5 Championship on Saturday, July 12, in Bryan. Swimmers from La Grange and Schulenburg competed against strong teams from Hamilton, College Station, and Bryan, all hoping to qualify for the prestigious Games of Texas state meet later this month.
The Fayette Area Swim Team always has lots of participants every summer.

58 Local Optimist Club Track Kids Qualify For State Meet

Fifty-eight kids who compete for La Grange Optimist Club’s summer track program have qualified for the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation’s State Track and Field Meet Thursday, July 31 through Sunday, Aug. 3 at Cushing Stadium in College Station.

Special Edition of ‘Texas Football’ Magazine Released Featuring Leopards

A special commemorative edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine featuring the La Grange football team on the cover (right) arrived Thursday. The edition is sponsored by Fayette County Farm Bureau Insurance in La Grange. The magazine features all the normal magazine contents (previews of every college and high school team in the state) but has a special four page wrap around the outside featuring the Leps. All proceeds from the sales of the magazine go to the football program. The magazines are $20 and available at the school’s administration building at 560 N. Monroe, and also from varsity football players. Members of Farm Bureau showed off the magazine to members of the Leps varsity at the stadium Thursday (above). The Farm Bureau folks also treated the football players to watermelon and popsicles Thursday.
