Flatonia Downs Fayetteville

The Flatonia volleyball team defeated Fayetteville Friday 25-20, 25-22, 26-24. Kat Sullivan led Flatonia in kills with 18, Emma Kosler had seven and Summer Sodek five. Sodek and Brynlee Zimmerman led in digs with 16 each. Quinn Arnett had three blocks. Sodek had 17 assists and Abbie Uzzell had 11.

Cooper Wins Football Jackpot

David Cooper was the first winner of our $100 reader pick-it football contest. He and J.C Spacek both correctly predicted all 10 winners of our games last week. But Cooper wins the money thanks to his score prediction tiebreaker. He predicted a 48-14 Columbus win over La Grange, while Spacek predicted a 35-21 Cardinals win. The final score was Columbus 49, La Grange 7. We will try to get a picture of Cooper accepting his prize money in Friday’s Record. Below are this week’s games. Good Luck!

Supak Named PCL Pitcher Of the Month

Round Rock Express pitcher and La Grange native Trey Supak was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Month for August, as announced by Minor League Baseball on Thursday afternoon. Supak is the first Express pitcher to receive PCL Pitcher of the Month since LHP Cody Bradford in April 2023.

Shorthorns Fall to Rogers in Overtime

The Schulenburg Shorthorns lost an overtime thriller 36-29 against the Rogers Eagles Friday night. Schulenburg led 22-7 at halftime in the Horns’ first big test of the season following their 42-0 blowout against Sacred Heart Hallettsville the week before.

Defending State Champ Columbus Beats Leps 49-7

The Columbus Cardinals look like a defending state champ good enough to repeat. The Cardinals came to La Grange and overwhelmed the Leps Friday 49-7 in front of a a big crowd that turned out for the home opener.

The Flatonia volleyball team defeated Hallettsville in five sets Tuesday 18-25, 25-17, 25-17, 21-25, 27-15. Schulenburg vs. Rogers

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Schulenburg Records: Both teams are 1-0. Of Note: The two new coaches of these teams had impressive debuts last week, but one will loss their first games at their new jobs this week. Rogers is coming off a 38-21 victory over Groesbeck in their season opener under nee head coach Casey Carr ... Meanwhile, Schulenburg looked very impressive in Clay Ferguson’s first game as head coach at Schulenburg as the Shorthorns spanked Hallettsville Sacred Heart 42-0. New ‘Horns starting QB Owen Brenek ran 91 yards and threw for 134 yards. The Schulenburg defense limited Sacred Heart to just 34 total yards.
