After winning its first two games, Flatonia lost its first football game of the season 47-17 at Nixon-Smiley Friday. The Bulldogs dropped to 2-1 this season while Nixon-Smiley stayed undefeated at 3-0.

With dozens of former Leopard state champs watching, the current crop of La Grange football players rose to the occasion. The Leps slammed Smithville 41-7 Friday on a night when the 1975 and 2000 La Grange state champ football teams were honored on the “Night of Champions” at Leopard Stadium.

Friday the Flatonia volleyball team defeated Round Top-Carmine 10-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-4. Kat Sullivan had 20 kills for Flatonia.

We had three readers get all 10 games right in last week’s football pick-it contest – Michael Chovanec, Brian Cox and Jason Vela. But it was Chovanec who wins the $100 prize based on his tiebreaker prediction of the Leps/Smithville game.

The Schulenburg volleyball team beat a pair of 4A schools last week. They downed Giddings in three sets Tuesday and then beat La Grange in four sets Friday, 28-26, 23-25, 25-20, 26-24.

Two games into the season and Flatonia hasn’t allowed a point yet ... Nixon- Smiley has been living on the edge this season, beating Luling 22-21 and then Three Rivers 40-36 last week.
