Weimar Vets Win Community League Baseball Title Over Serbin Jackrabbits

The Weimar Vets traveled to Voekel/Koether field in La Grange Sunday to face the Serbin Jackrabbits in the Championship game. A tight game in the first seven innings was due to good pitching and defense by both teams. In the top of the eighth, with one out, Mark Revilla walked and went first to third on a wild pitch. Next up, Kyle Peschel singled to center to score Revilla. In the bottom of the ninth, with the bases loaded, pitcher Matt Sandoval fielded a ground ball, threw to Kyle Peschel, catcher, who fired the throw to first for a game ending double play. Final score was Vets 1, Serbin 0.

Shane Connell pitched the first five innings allowing no runs, four strike outs, and two hits. Kyle Barosh threw the next three, allowing no runs and no hits, Matt Sandoval pitched the ninth allowing no runs, another stellar pitching performance.

Offensive leaders: Mark Reulla base hit, BB, run scored, two SB; Kyle Peschel RBI, SB, base hit; Ryan Rerich base hit, BB; Brady Henke base hit, 2 SB.

Defensive standouts: Mark Revilla gunned down a runner at home, Carson Peschel with a diving catch to prevent a run, Shane Connell and Kyle Barosh picked off runners at first, Cole Rassbury, Ryan Rerich, MO Pavlik, Brady Henke, Emerson Harvey, and again a tremendous job behind the plate by Kyle Peschel.
