Volleyball Roundup: Schulenburg Wins Silver Bracket at Home Tourney

County volleyball teams were very busy over the past few days.

Here’s a look at how they fared:

La Grange

The La Grange volleyball team went 3-4 at the Bastrop ISD Classic tournament over the weekend.

The Lady Leps beat Navarro, Ann Richards and Thorndale but fell to Hays, Davenport, Seguin and Round Rock Christian Academy. During the tournament, La Grange’s Carley Ulrich recorded her 1,000th career kill.

The Lady Leps are now 11-7 overall and make their home debut Tuesday at 6 p.m. against East Bernard.

Schulenburg

The Schulenburg volleyball team won the Silver Division title at their home tourney Saturday.

In Pool Play Thursday and Friday the Lady Horns beat Poth, Yoakum, Snook and Sacred Heart but lost to Shiner and Weimar.

In Saturday’s Silver Bracket play, the Lady Horns swept past Yoakum and East Bernard.

In that title match Saturday Schulenburg’s Landry Zapalac had 25 assists. Greenli Van Zandt had nine kills, Haylee Vacek had eight, Reagan Dusek had five and Clara Magliolo and Grace Schramek each had three.

Jenna Guenert led in digs with 19. Vacek had 11, Michaela Kollman had nine and Miranda Bonner had six.

Zapalac was named to the all-tournament team.

The Lady Horns are now 11-7.

Fayetteville

The Fayetteville volleyball team also competed at the Schulenburg Tourmament.

They went 3-5 at the tourney to improve their overall record to 9-6.

The Lady Lions defeated the Flatonia JV, Brazos and Flatonia varsity.

Fayetteville lost to Weimar, East Bernard, Gonzales, Poth and Brazos.

In that Friday win over Brazos, Cambree Denham led the Lady Lions with seven kills and Lainey Gromaski had six.

Scott Beseda has six aces. Emily Keilers had 13 digs. Beseda had 17 assists.

Flatonia

The Flatonia volleyball team went 3-5 at the Schulenburg Tournament last week.

The Lady Bulldogs beat Brazos, and the Flatonia JV twice.

They lost to Columbus, Sacred Heart, Snook, Edna and Fayetteville.

The JV white will play at 5 p.m., then JV maroon at 6 p.m. and Varsity will be at 7 p.m.
