The members of the Round Top-Carmine volleyball team celebrate their victory Tuesday over Utopia in Seguin.
The Round Top-Carmine Cubettes earned a berth in the regional volleyball title match with a four set win over Utopia Tuesday in Seguin in the fourth round of the playoffs.
The Cubettes won 25-23, 25-27, 25-16, 25-22. Tuesday’s win vaults the Cubettes into a match with McMullen County Friday at 3 p.m. atAthens High School. McMullen County knocked Fayetteville from the playoffs Tuesday in a sweep.
The winner of Friday’s regional title match will turn around and play again Saturday at 2 p.m. back in Athens in the state semifinals against the winner of the Sulphur Bluff/ Blum match.
Tuesday’s win improved the Cubettes overall record to 18-23-1, hardly a sparking mark, but all those early season matches against bigger schools are paying dividends now. Tuesday’s stat leaders for RTC included: Madison Markwardt 8 kills, 15 digs, 30 assists, 3 aces; Bree Dooley 10 kills, 24 digs, 2 assists, 2 aces; Jessica Rohde 15 kills, 2 solo blocks, 5 digs, 1 assist; Morgan Nelius 7 kills, 1 assist block, 7 digs; Caydan Nelius 4 kills, 2 assist blocks, 1 dig; Hayden Kasmiersky 8 kills, 1 assist block, 1 dig; Liliana Salinas 12 digs, 1 ace; Avery Lamson 4 digs, 13 assists; Avery Nelius 2 digs, 2 aces; Reagan Williams 1 kill, 11 digs, 1 ace; Makayla Smith 6 digs, 2 assists, 2 aces; Rebekah Sacks 1 dig.
