La Grange is having some midseason coaching shakeups. Brodney Pool, a former NFL defensive back, who has been the Leps football defensive coordinator and head boys soccer coach the last three seasons has resigned to take an assistant football coaching job at Eastern New Mexico University.

“Brodney Pool is one of the three best human beings I’ve ever met,” said La Grange head coach Kyle Cooper. “I love the guy and what he’s meant to this program and to our kids and to our community. He played seven years in the NFL, has great character. I love the guy and am so glad our paths crossed. It’s a super opportunity for him and can’t say enough about the job he did for us here.”

The move reunites Pool with new ENMU head coach Art Briles, who coached with Pool at Baylor a decade ago.

Pool was a college star at Oklahoma before playing in the NFL for seven season with the Browns, the Jets and the Cowboys.

He is the son of two La Grange athletic legends, Rose Jones Brimmer and Robert Poole, who both went to college sports stardom at Texas A&I University Interestingly, the oldest son of La Grange head football coach Kyle Cooper, Clifton Cooper, is also heading to ENMU to play for Briles.

Zach Mueller, a Leps assistant coach, will be the new head boys soccer coach.

Kyle Cooper said the search for a new football defensive coordinator will be ongoing.
