Dave Campbell’s ‘Texas Football’ magazine is out on racks statewide and the 400-page edition, as usual, includes information and predictions for every high school football team in the state.

According to the magazine, the results will be mixed for local football teams this fall.

The La Grange Leopards are predicted to finish fourth in District 11-4A, which is where they finished last year.

This year’s predicted order of finish is: 1. Sealy 2. Bellville 3. Madisonville 4. La Grange 5. Caldwell 6. Giddings Of the Leps (who return 21 lettermen and five offensive and six defensive starters from last year’s 6-5 team), the magazine says: “There’s youth scattered all over but La Grange is excited about 2025’s potential. QB (Eli) Gillum will be the new slinger and he’d be smart to find explosive playmakers (Dillan) Johnson and (Dwodney) Thompson often. (Oliver) Gunn will anchor a young but tenacious defense.” Schulenburg is predicted to finish third and Flatonia sixth in District 15-2A.

This year’s predicted order of finish: 1. Ganado 2. Weimar 3. Schulenburg 4. Kenedy 5. Bloomington 6. Flatonia 7. Danbury Of the Shorthorns (who return 17 lettermen and seven offensive and seven defensive starters from last year’s 8-4 team), the magazine says: “Coach (Clay) Ferguson took over in March and is excited about the potential of WR Jayse Janda and DB Reid Janda, who will also play WR. The key for the Shorthorns will be finding a QB to get them the ball.”

Of the Bulldogs (who return 21 lettermen and seven offensive and six defensive starters from last year’s 1-9 team), the magazine says: “The Bulldogs figure there is no way to go but up after losing their last nine games last season. The losses stung, but a young OL and DL gained valuable experience that should pay off this season.”

• Also, the magazine lists new Giddings Coach Luke Hobbs as one of its 40 Under 40 (best coaches in the state under 40 years of age). Hobbs was at Schulenburg the last two years before going to Giddings this season.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine predicts the Texas Longhorns (led by head coach Steve Sarkisian, above, the cover subject of the statewide edition of the magazine) will win the college national title over Clemson this year. The version of the magazine with La Grange on the cover (for sale at the administration office) is shown below.
