LHS Soccer Piling Up the Victories
The La Grange boys soccer team won both their games last week, beating Smithville 6-1 on the road Tuesday and then winning 4-2 Friday at Taylor. Against Smithville Jeffrey Cabrera had a hat trick (three goals) and Raul Mancera, Aaron Torres, and Aldo Hernandez all scored a goal a piece. Cabrera also contributed 3 assists with Nohe Maldonado, Aldo Hernandez, and Quade Brothers also recorded an assist a piece.
Against Taylor the Ducks struck first scoring a goal two minutes after kick off. The Leps didn’t blink and responded with an Eli Rios goal coming off a cross from Aldo Hernandez. The game went into halftime tied 1-1. Senior captain Jeffrey Cabrera motivated the team during the break and the team came out aggressive to start the half. Aldo Hernandez crossed the ball into the box off a corner where Gio Luna headed it to Jeffrey who finished the possession with a goal. The freshman phenom Luna was not done as eight minutes later he put a free kick from 25 yards out in the back of the net. Ten minutes later Aldo stole a wayward Taylor pass and beat the keeper 1-on-1 to put the Leps up three. Taylor scored a goal late but the Leps held on to win. La Grange improves to 10-5 overall and 6-3 in district play. They will take on Cameron at home Tuesday night.
