The Leopards took on the Cameron Yoemen Tuesday night at Leopard Stadium, winning 2-1.

The Leps took control early, winning the passing battle and field position battle. Dominic Villalobos scored a goal at the 20 minute mark. Jeffrey Cabrera was credited with the assist. The Leopards took that 1-0 to half and maintained that lead until 18 minutes left when Cameron suddenly broke through the defensive line and scored. Despite the sudden swing in momentum the Leopards remained unfazed. Increasing the pressure the offense searching for an opening when they finally found one. Dilan Baron headed the ball to Jeffrey Cabrera who scored the game winning goal.

The Leopards advance to 11-5 overall and 7-3 in district. The Leopards are off Friday and will continue the season in Caldwell next Tuesday.

The La Grange Lady Leps soccer program enjoyed a historic night on the road Tuesday, with both Varsity and JV squads securing victories over Cameron Yoe.

The Lady Leps Varsity won 6-1; and is now 8-2 in district play.

Scoring for the Lady Leps on Tuesday were freshman Lily Banks (4 goals; an assist from senior Miriam Lopez), freshman Raylee Gutierrez (an assist from Banks) and Lopez (an assist from senior Samanatha Castaneda).

Due to illness/injury, the Lady Leps Varsity made a number of lineup shifts. In the absence of senior captain Trinity Yanis, freshmen Kayden Yanis and Eliza Luna stepped up to provide a solid anchor for the central defense. The “next man up” mentality translated into a total team effort across the entire pitch, and better possession and passing by the Lady Leps Varsity than in its previous outing against Cameron.

In the evening’s opening match, the Lady Leps JV squad earned a hard-fought 1-0 win. The lone goal was scored by freshman Sasha “SashaNation” Espinoza Gallegos. The victory marked a major milestone for the program, representing the JV team’s first win in more than two and a half seasons. The result was a true team-wide effort, with all 13 players present contributing to the shutout win.

The Lady Leps travel to Caldwell on Tuesday, February 24 for a 7:15 p.m. match.
